Additional events and activities aimed at creating a safe, healthy, and positive learning environment for all!
Relaxation Lunch
Over the next two weeks students will experience standardized testing in both their English and Math classes. Since standardized testing can be tiring and stressful, these activities were created for students to unwind and de-stress during their lunch period!
Make Your Own Stressball
Everyone ended up with a little bit of flour on them, but it was well worth it when their stress balls were finally complete!
Movie Lunch
Movie Lunch was such a success! Students joined us as we watched America's Funniest Home Videos, shared some laughs, and munched on popcorn!
Meditation
This was many of the students first experience with meditation and they seemed to really enjoy it! Students had the opportunity to lie down and listen to a sweet mediation as it lulled them into relaxation.
Lavender Play Dough
Lavender is used in aromatherapy to aid in relaxation! This Kinetic Sand was donated from the local Santa Maria JoAnn's, and we infused it with lavender oil so that when the students were playing with it they would smell the aroma and feel more relaxed!
Finger Painting
It's not often that you're allowed to get a little messy at school! In this activity, students painted with their fingers to create colorful masterpieces. Getting to work with paint and feel it's texture, really heightens one's sense of touch and allows the students to dive deep into their imaginative and creative minds!
Relaxation Lunch Week 2!
Since week one of Relaxation Lunch was such a success, we've decided to organize some more events for this week! We can't wait to spend time with all the students that attend, and hope that these events help the students at Fesler to de-stress and have a little fun!
Anti-bullying Activities
Simon Says!
In this Simon Says activity, students are asked to stand in a circle so that every participant can see one another. Then, the teacher recites different commands one by one to the class and if these commands apply to a student, the student is to participate in the action described. The characteristics, and responsibilities of the commands begin lighthearted and as the game goes on they become more personal. As the students look around the room they are able to see that many of their peers have similar experiences and hardships as their own. Closure questions are provided that ask students to consider why this activity was chosen and how it relates to anti-bullying day.
Positive Post-its
This lesson began by having students watch a video that told the story of a girl who created a positive outcome after she was bullied by one of her peers. Rather than letting the bullying effect her, the girl wrote positive comments on several stacks of post-it notes and then stuck them all around her school in the hopes of spreading positivity! After watching the video, the students created their own post-it notes with heartwarming messages to remind those in their lives just how much they are loved and appreciated!
